Downy stems are slender and very dark, nearly black, on this different-looking perennial wildflower. In spring they’re topped with brilliant scarlet red flowers—the color is intense. Plants in the species are often short-lived but ‘Jackson Valentine’ seems to last much longer. Great for meadows or borders.
